About the Temperature Converter

What is the formula for Celsius to Fahrenheit?

Multiply by 9/5 (that is 1.8) and add 32. So 25 C becomes 25 x 1.8 + 32 = 77 F. Going the other way, subtract 32 first and then multiply by 5/9.

Is there a quick way to estimate Celsius to Fahrenheit?

Double the Celsius value and add 30. For 20 C that gives 70, close to the exact 68 F. The shortcut drifts by a few degrees at the extremes but is fine for weather.

At what temperature are Celsius and Fahrenheit equal?

At minus forty. -40 C and -40 F are the same temperature, and it is the only point where the two scales cross.

Why does Kelvin have no degree symbol?

Kelvin is an absolute thermodynamic scale, so its unit is simply the kelvin (K) rather than a degree. It starts at absolute zero, the point where molecular motion stops, and one kelvin step equals one Celsius degree.
