About the Date Duration Calculator

The Date Duration Calculator counts the time between any two dates. Pick a start and an end date and it returns the total number of days, the same span expressed in weeks, months and years, the equivalent hours and minutes, and the number of business days (Monday to Friday) in between.

By default the end date is not counted, which is the convention for "days until": from 1 January to 3 January is two days. Tick "include the end date" when you need the number of calendar days a period covers, such as the length of a rental, a holiday or a project timeline.

Typical uses include project planning, calculating notice periods, counting down to a wedding or trip, working out how long you have held a job or lived somewhere, and checking deadlines that are expressed in working days.

Frequently asked questions

How many days are between two dates?

Subtract the earlier date from the later one. The calculator does this exactly, including leap days, and optionally adds one day when the end date is inclusive.

What are business days?

Business or working days are Monday through Friday. This tool excludes weekends but not public holidays, which vary by country. Subtract any holidays in the period manually.

Why does "months" show extra days?

Months have different lengths, so a span rarely divides into whole months. The tool gives whole months plus the remaining days for accuracy.

Can I count days until a future date?

Yes. Set the start date to today and the end date to the future date. The result is the number of days remaining.
