Remove Duplicate Lines

Delete repeated lines and clean up lists.

About Remove Duplicate Lines

Lists collected from different sources almost always contain repeats. This tool removes duplicate lines from any text in a single click, keeping the first occurrence of each entry so your list stays in its original order. Options let you treat different capitalisation as the same, ignore leading and trailing spaces, drop blank lines and sort the cleaned result alphabetically.

It is handy for de-duplicating mailing lists, keyword research exports, log files, product SKUs, URLs from a crawl, or the contents of a spreadsheet column. Paste, click, copy: no formulas required.

How to use the Remove Duplicate Lines

  1. Paste your list or text into the input box, one item per line.
  2. Choose options: ignore case, trim whitespace before comparing, remove empty lines, or sort the result.
  3. Click Remove Duplicates. The cleaned list appears below with a count of how many lines were removed. Copy it with one click.

Frequently asked questions

Which copy of a duplicate is kept?

The first occurrence is kept and later repeats are removed, so the original order of your list is preserved unless you enable sorting.

Are "Apple" and "apple" considered duplicates?

Only if you tick "Ignore case". By default the comparison is exact, so lines that differ in capitalisation are kept as separate entries.

What does "Trim whitespace" do?

It removes spaces and tabs from the start and end of each line before comparing, so "item " and "item" are treated as the same line. The output is also trimmed.

Can I use this to clean an email or keyword list?

Yes. It is a quick way to dedupe email addresses, SEO keyword lists, URLs, product codes or any other list exported from a spreadsheet.
